As director of the ZSP, Mansour Aalam is guided by the conviction that all people should have access to good and fair opportunities in life. To this end, he is committed to designing sustainable social systems.

His keen interest and in-depth expertise in the field of public policy also lead him to explore the question of how institutions and policy measures must be designed in order to improve people’s lives in the long term.

What motivated you to found the ZSP?

I founded the ZSP so that one day we will no longer need it. Origin still too often determines future prospects. We want to change that—with a pioneering spirit, evidence-based policy advice, and the courage to break new ground in social policy.

What does “new social policy” mean to you?

For me, new social policy means creating a welfare state that is geared toward people's changing realities of life—one that not only provides security, but also actively invests in the potential of all people. Only in this way can we overcome the great challenges of our time together.

If you were allowed to host a talk show, who would you invite first?

I would invite South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They expose hypocrisy and double standards on all sides with disarming humor. A shining example of common sense with a rock ‘n’ roll attitude.
